This list is compiled considering both viewership and fan following worldwide...

1. Soccer(Association Footbal)

 
 It is played by 250 million players in over 200 nations, making it the world's most popular sport. Association football is governed internationally by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), which organises World Cups for both men and women every four years.






2. Basketball

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the most popular and widely considered to be the highest level of professional basketball in the world and NBA players are the world's best paid sportsmen, by average annual salary per player. Basketball is a very popular sport played all around the world, though it is more popular in certain countries particularly the US where it was invented.


3. Tennis


Tennis is played by millions of recreational players and is also a popular worldwide spectator sport. The four Grand Slam tournaments (also referred to as the "Majors") are especially popular: the Australian Open played on hard courts, the French Open played on red clay courts, Wimbledon played on grass courts, and the US Open played also on hard courts. International Tennis Federation is the highest governing body for this game.

4. Cricket


Cricket is most popular in Australasia, England, the Indian subcontinent, the West Indies and Southern Africa. The Laws of Cricket are maintained by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) with additional Standard Playing Conditions for Test matches and One Day Internationals. ICC is the highest governing body for Cricket.

Baseball, widely known as America's pastime, is well established in several other countries as well.Baseball is popular in North America and parts of Central and South America, the Caribbean, and East Asia. World Baseball Softball Confederation is the highest governing body of Base ball.




6. Athletics


The sport of athletics is an exclusive collection of sporting events that involve competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and race walking. International Association of Athletics Federations and its member federations conduct most of the major modern day competitions in Athletics.All forms of athletics are individual sports with the exception of relay races.

7. Formula 1

Formula One (F1) is the highest class of single-seat auto racing that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The FIA Formula One World Championship has been the premier form of racing since the inaugural season in 1950. The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix (from French, originally meaning great prizes), held throughout the world on purpose-built F1 circuits and public roads.
